Trunkey Creek

Historical Sites and Heritage Locations

Trunkey Creek

Trunkey Creek is a lovely old gold mining village. The hills around Trunkey Creek are honeycombed with abandoned mine shafts and mullock heaps and together with the crumbling mud huts and brick chimneys are the only remains of the goldrush age. Gold can still be obtained from the quartz rocks that were left lying around the old mullock heaps. The district was one of the earliest pastoral areas to be established. Some of the early selections were surveyed in the 1820s. The present-day pastoralists in the area, produce some of Australia's top-quality Merino wool. Today Trunkey Creek is a quiet rustic rural village. The Hotel and Billabong tea house provides a service for visitors. Another special attraction is provided by pioneer craft demonstrations given by experienced bushmen. Wood skills, earth, mud and stone wall building, blacksmith and gold panning are some of the skills demonstrated. The annual wool festival, sheep show and horse show are among the highlights of the Trunkey Creek calendar, bringing the community together and celebrating the area's rich pastoral and pioneering heritage.

Hive Grove

Hive Grove is a vibrant boutique nestled in the heritage heart of Millthorpe Village, located 15 minutes from Orange offering fashion, accessories, gifts, homewares custom-designed mats, locally grown flowers and products . It's all about colour, creativity and style. Back in 2019 founder Gwenda began making custom mats from her kitchen table in Orange, NSW. What started as a creative outlet quickly blossomed into a full-fledged business. Inspired by her love of bees, Gwenda launched Busy Bee Creative Hive, an online shop connecting clients with hand-painted, artisanal mat designs. With growing support locally, nationally, and internationally, Gwenda's kitchen startup expanded beyond the walls of her home. This success led to the opening of Hive Grove in Millthorpe, a bricks-and-mortar store that now showcases her mats alongside a carefully curated selection of fashion, homewares, and gifts. Hive Grove is an homage to Gwenda's creative journey and the history of Millthorpe, which was formerly known as Spring Grove. Today, HIVE GROVE continues to thrive as a beloved boutique, blending old-world charm with new creative ventures, and offering a welcoming experience to locals and visitors alike.
