MAD Mountain Bike Club: Mackay’s Home of Mountain Biking

If you love getting off the bitumen and onto the trails, Mackay has a mountain biking community worth discovering.

MAD Mountain Bike Club — the Mackay and District Mountain Bike Club — has been bringing local riders together since 2009. Run by volunteers and built around a shared love of mountain biking, the club welcomes everyone from beginners and young riders through to experienced mountain bikers looking for their next challenge.

Hit the Trails at Rowallan Park

MAD Mountain Bike Club calls Rowallan Park in Richmond home, just a short drive north of Mackay.

Set amongst natural bushland, Rowallan Park features around 15 kilometres of purpose-designed single-track trails catering for a range of riding abilities.

The trails include climbs, descents, sweeping berms, switchbacks, jumps, rock gardens and technical sections, with different line options available in some areas to suit different skill levels.

Whether you're building confidence, improving your riding skills or just looking for somewhere to enjoy a few hours on the bike, Rowallan Park offers plenty to explore.

More Than Just Racing

You certainly don't need to be a competitive rider to get involved with MAD Mountain Bike Club.

The club brings Mackay's mountain biking community together through social rides, skills sessions, trail maintenance activities and competitive race days.

For those who enjoy racing, MAD has hosted a range of mountain biking events and competitions, giving local riders the opportunity to test themselves without having to travel far from home.

It's also a great way to meet other people who share a passion for getting outdoors and hitting the trails.

Helping the Next Generation Ride

MAD Mountain Bike Club has also played an important role in developing Mackay's next generation of mountain bikers.

Junior riding and skills activities help younger riders develop their bike-handling skills, confidence and trail awareness in a supportive environment.

For families looking for an outdoor activity that gets the kids active and away from the screens, mountain biking can be a fantastic option.

Part of Mackay's Growing Mountain Bike Scene

Mountain biking continues to grow across the Mackay region, with destinations such as Rowallan Park and the Finch Hatton Mountain Bike Trails giving riders even more reasons to get on their bikes.

Local clubs such as MAD are an important part of that growth, providing not just trails and events, but a community where riders can learn, compete, volunteer and enjoy the sport together.

Whether you're an experienced mountain biker, you've just bought your first bike, or you're looking for a new outdoor activity for the family, MAD Mountain Bike Club is well worth checking out.
